From the Principal's Pen
This week, we celebrate our fantastic school community! It truly takes everyone's effort to create a positive and successful learning environment.
- Students: Our students have settled back into the term beautifully, demonstrating a great attitude towards learning. This makes a big difference!
- Teachers & Staff: Our experienced teachers and supportive staff continue to provide excellent learning programs and resources for our students.
- Families: Your support is invaluable! Thank you to all the mums and grandmas who joined us for the Mother's Day Morning. It was wonderful to connect and build community. Being a mum is a tough but rewarding job, and we appreciate your dedication to your children and our school.
Under 8's Day
Curious about a Christian College education? This event lets parents see our College in action! Children can participate in fun activities while you chat with our friendly staff. See the flyer below for details.
Great Wheelbarrow Race
Congratulations to our students who pushed a wheelbarrow 140 km for this race on the weekend! The teamwork and support they showed each other were truly inspiring. Special thanks to parent volunteers Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert and Mrs. Scherwitzel for their help!
Reflection
I recently attended a conference that focused on organisational leadership, in what the presenter coined a ‘VUCA’ world. The term VUCA stands for Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous. Whilst I think the world has always been in a state of VUCA, the world has never had a 24-hour news reel and social media drip-feeding the feeling of VUCA into our homes, phones and, often, our children's minds.
How do we bring hope into the lives of our children in this VUCA world, how will they find truth amongst the deep fake? The answer is through our Father in Heaven, for Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me”. John 14:6.
My prayer is that every child will come to experience God's boundless love, discovering the hope that He offers not only for eternity but for each day of their lives.

From the Deputy's Desk
As we look back on the weekend that just passed, we are filled with reflections on the beautiful celebration of Mother's Day. It was a time to honor and appreciate the incredible women who have shaped our lives with their boundless love, wisdom, and unwavering support.
Mothers hold a special place in our hearts, serving as our first teachers, cheerleaders, and confidants. Their influence is profound and everlasting, guiding us through life's ups and downs with strength and compassion.
As we came together to celebrate Mother's Day, we were reminded of the deep impact our mothers have had on us. Whether we were able to spend the day with them in person or cherished their memory from afar, their love was palpable and their presence cherished.
Let us continue to carry forward the spirit of Mother's Day throughout the year, honoring and appreciating the remarkable women who have made a difference in our lives. They are the pillars of our families and the guiding lights in our journey through life.
To all the mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and maternal figures who enrich our lives, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. May the love and appreciation we showed on Mother's Day be a constant reminder of the profound impact you have had on us.

From our SWAN Team
![](https://jubileechristiancollege.schoolzineplus.com/_file/media/2470/05_swan.png)
Since the beginning of the year, I have assumed the responsibility of the on campus SWAN teacher, and I am grateful for the support and collaboration I have encountered during this period. This role has presented a substantial learning curve, as each day brings new insights regarding the responsibilities inherent to the role and the diverse needs of the students under our care. I continue to expand my understanding each day.
At Jubilee we recognise the inherent uniqueness and individuality of each person created in God’s image, and understand that none of us fit into the ‘box’ that society has deemed typical. Consequently, the students with whom we engage daily have requirements that necessitate alternative approaches or additional support.
As educators, we have the privilege of working closely with our students, and it is during these interactions that we may become more aware of the academic or behavioral needs of SWAN students. When instructional methodologies or task outcomes exceed the reach of SWAN students, adjustments are necessary to enable each student to realize their full potential and achieve what God has purposed for them. At this juncture, collaborative efforts between educators and parents become pivotal. Special meetings are convened to explore tailored strategies that optimize the student's ability to pursue their aspirations.
Please let us know how we can collaborate with you and support your students, as we are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment to work towards our goal of:
Developing Character, Realising Potential, and Learning for Life and Eternity.

Primary News
Hello to all our wonderful families. Here we are already at the halfway point for term 2 which is always a busy time in our classrooms for our students with assessments beginning.
We have an eventful end of May with our National Simultaneous Storytime on the 22nd of May. We will share the joys and benefits of reading with other Australian schools across our Nation. This year's selected picture book is Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker, which is a moving story that unfolds as the bowerbird searches for blue things across the sea, sky and city.
We are also very excited for the upcoming Under 8’s morning on Friday the 24th of May, where we have many exciting activities including a jumping castle, face painting, crafts and community displays for our preps to year 2 students. Also, the coffee van will be present for well-deserving parents and carers to purchase a warm cuppa. We would love any 'under 8' children who are not yet a part of our Jubilee family to attend. So please invite your friends and family to come and tour our early learning spaces and make it our biggest Under 8’s morning yet!
Just some housekeeping please don’t forget to label your child’s hats and jumpers as it helps us to reconnect your child with their belongings when they are misplaced.
I pray for God’s peace, love and joy over all our amazing Jubilee families
Yours in Christ

Special Events
Fire Safety
Prep and Year One classrooms blazed with excitement as the local fire brigade made not one, but two sizzling visits to our school! During their first visit, the firefighters sparked student curiosity by discussing safe and unsafe fires, sharing essential fire safety tips, dressing in full fire-fighting gear, and encouraging students to learn their addresses for emergencies. The second visit turned up the heat with some hands-on experience! After reinforcing fire safety essentials, students explored the fire trucks, played with the hoses and listened to the sirens. The day was a firecracker of fun and learning and ignited a commitment to safety as students continue to learn their address and to practice safe behaviours around fire.

ANZAC Day
A big thank you to all the staff and students who were involved in this year’s College ANZAC Day service. It was a time of solemn reflection and commemoration; to come together as a school and pay our respects to those who served and died for our freedom. We had a wonderful turnout for the Atherton ANZAC Day march. Well done to Hannah Houldsworth, who represented Jubilee so well with her reading of Psalm 23 at the cenotaph service. Another moving moment was watching our two school captains, Hannah and Andrew, lay the wreath. Overall, Jubilee Christian College was very well represented on ANZAC Day and a very big thank you for all those who attended.

The Great Wheelbarrow Race
The Bendigo Bank Great Wheelbarrow Race celebrated its 21st anniversary with impressive results for the Jubilee Jets. With 35 teams participating in the 140 km event from Mareeba to Chillagoe, national TV exposure was achieved through Channel 7’s Sunrise and the ABC’s Back Roads program.
The Jets excelled in the school’s division, finishing 2nd with 3 teams in the Top 5 overall. Setting new records each day, the Jets' determination was evident, culminating in a 5th place finish overall and 2nd in schools. Their charitable efforts raised $3,655.00 for MAF, Mareeba Base. (For a full report with all the statistics, click here).
This experience fosters confidence, teamwork, and resilience among students, laying the groundwork for future successes. Plans are already underway for next year's race, with anticipation building for another remarkable performance in 2025.
Go Jets!

Secondary News
As we find ourselves halfway through the term, it's a perfect time to reflect on the multitude of exciting events that have unfolded already this term. Our students have showcased their talents and determination in various endeavors, such as the thrilling Great Wheelbarrow Race, the challenging District Cross Country competition, and the solemn ANZAC Day parade. These achievements are a testament to their hard work and dedication, and we couldn't be prouder of their accomplishments.
As we continue on this journey, it's essential to remind our students of the importance of consistent attendance. Every day presents an opportunity for learning and growth, and maintaining a 95% attendance rate ensures that students make the most of their educational experience. Remember, every class, every lesson counts towards their future success.
In the face of challenges, we urge our students to persevere. Whether it's tackling difficult assignments, navigating personal obstacles, or pursuing their passions, perseverance is key to overcoming hurdles and achieving their goals. Let's encourage each other to stay focused, motivated, and resilient as we strive for excellence in all that we do.
Together, let's embrace the remainder of the term with enthusiasm, determination, and a commitment to reaching new heights of success.
Please see below a great article that our maths teacher, Janice Smorti, has written to inspire our budding mathameticians.

Here we are, facing the halfway point of the term. How those first few weeks have just flown by. There has been plenty of activity in our Senior Room, with the Year 11 and 12s getting into the ‘meat’ part of the term.
Our Year 10s have started their SET Plan preparation. We are using some of our Wednesday home class time to explore and unpack the QCAA Senior secondary system. Parents, I encourage you to start having conversations with your child about next year and beyond.
I want to encourage all our senior students to take some time to reflect on their study habits. Developing healthy study habits can help you stay on top of your tasks and balance your studying with everything you need to do. A few helpful study tips are listed below.

JCC Schoolies Proposal
For our 2024 'anti-schoolies' trip for our graduating class, we are considering travelling overseas. . .to TASMANIA!!! It will be an amazing experience and celebration of completing school.
- 7 days (18 Nov - 24 Nov)
- 1 night in Hobart, 5 Nights at a house at Coles Bay (pictured above)
- Activities include hiking, beach combing, games, guided sequence of reflections led by Mick Rae
- The approximate cost will be $400 plus airfares.

Chappy News
![](https://jubileechristiancollege.schoolzineplus.com/_file/media/2472/go_serve_love_logo.png)
Every Wednesday at lunchtime, girls in high school are invited to join Mrs Lindsey and myself for 'Girls Group' in the Year 4 classroom. This group provides a safe space to chat and support each other, as well as share in a devotion and eat yummy snacks! It's been wonderful spending time with the girls who have come over the past two weeks and we hope to see more girls join.
In the last week of the term, a group of 14 Jubilee students will be heading to the town of Emerald. They will be sharing the gospel message through fun games and activities across several small schools within the Emerald region.
To support this trip, and to raise funds for fuel, we are holding a Subway Tuckshop day on Wednesday 29 May. All students will have received an order form (additional forms are available at the office if required). Please ensure that all order forms and money are returned to the office no later than 9am Friday 24 May.
Please also join me in praying for this trip.
