Dates for the Diary
From the Principal's Pen
Our vibrant campus has been alive with energy these past weeks! From lively camps and sizzling BBQs to exciting sports spectaculars and engaging academic programs, students have immersed themselves in a diverse range of experiences. It has been heartwarming to witness students establishing friendships, settling into their routines, and actively pursuing their learning. The College is truly buzzing with a joyful spirit of discovery and connection.
A round of applause for Bailey McGregor, Grant Guevara, and Reggie Carlson, chosen to represent Jubilee Christian College at the Peninsula soccer competition! We encourage all students to embrace their passions and interests, not for external validation, but for the intrinsic joy of learning, growth, and personal expansion.
This year, our student leaders have impressed me with their maturity and dedication. Our secondary leaders, Andrew Nitschke, Hannah Houldsworth, Holly Bunce, Mary Anne van der Merwe, and Annabelle Garate, have taken the reins, leading assemblies and managing Chapel programs. Their focus on "culture" will involve collaborating with primary school leaders and house captains to foster a positive and inclusive environment for everyone. We are excited to witness their continued growth and leadership journey.
Reflection
As we pause for reflection, let's consider the profound words of Diadochos of Photiki:
"Whoever is in love with himself is unable to love God. The man who loves God is the one who abandons his self-love for the sake of the immeasurable blessings of divine love. Such a man never seeks his own glory but only the glory of God. If a person loves himself he seeks his own glory, but the man who loves God loves the glory of his Creator."
He then adds: “Anyone who loves God in the depths of his heart has already been loved by God. In fact, the measure of a man’s love for God depends upon how deeply aware he is of God’s love for him.”
May these words inspire us to nurture selflessness, deepen our connections, and celebrate the joy of learning and community at Jubilee Christian College.

Can you believe we are in Week 5 already and halfway through Term 1? Where has the time gone? My new role is keeping me on my toes, and I am finding it very rewarding.
I felt it might be beneficial for parents and caregivers to know about the High 5 strategy we have implemented across our campus, to assist students in resolving interpersonal conflict. Teaching students how to effectively resolve interpersonal conflict helps them to grow in their interactions with others and empowers them to make good choices, and when it is used properly, it works! Age-appropriate posters are displayed in every classroom and on notice boards around the college, and students are collectively taken through the process regularly to check for understanding. Staff have found there is a significant reduction in the number of students seeking them out to intervene in interpersonal conflicts, which is a very positive outcome.

Everyday Counts
We are well and truly back into the swing of things this term but as the excitement of the new year starts to wane it is important that we maintain the good efforts we began the term with. My particular focus this term is punctuality. Getting to school and our lessons on time. Hours of learning are potentially lost during the course of a semester. Therefore please encourage students to get to class on time. School starts at 8.30am, students arriving at school after this time must go to see Mrs Fisher in the administration building to get a late slip, this is important to maintain an accurate attendance roll in the morning.
On a positive note the 2024 JCC Mario Kart Cup begins this week, almost 100 students have signed up and the group stages begin on Tuesday. This is a great opportunity for the whole school to come together for a fun activity at lunchtime!

Primary News
Wow, it’s hard to believe that we’re almost halfway through Term 1! The past few weeks have been filled with fun and lots of learning across the primary school. One of our highlights was having AFL Auskick coaches come on Friday afternoons to teach us ball-handling skills and techniques, alongside new games involving teamwork. It’s been great to see the smiles on students’ faces as they learn and play.
In primary chapel this term, we are looking at ‘developing character’ which is part of our school mission statement. So far, we have learnt about showing compassion to others, being humble, having integrity and being honest. You might like to talk further with your children about these character traits and how they can be developed. Over the next few weeks, we’ll look at showing generosity, being patient and using self-control. Our Year 6 students are also doing a fantastic job at running chapel each week and it’s wonderful to see them stepping into this leadership role. Well done, Year 6’s!
Have a great week.
Yours in Christ,
Mrs Naomi Lindsey
Sports Spectacular
On Monday, our Years 4-6 students joined other schools from across the Tablelands to embark on a thrilling adventure to the annual Sports Spectacular, showcasing not only their sporting prowess but also their resilience and teamwork.
The day revolved around students getting to test out a variety of sports. Among those sports that were present were Surf Life-saving, Rugby League, AFL, Hockey, Soccer, Rugby Union, Touch Football and Cricket.
On the day each student received a number of flyers with relevant contact information if your child was intersted in getting involved in any of the sports they played on the day. If you have any question at all, please feel free to contact me.

Secondary News
The Secondary School is “humming along” nicely this term; there is a perceivable atmosphere of good will which makes being a part of Jubilee a pleasure for both staff and students. New students are integrating well into their classes and are making some valuable contributions to both the academic and social life of the school.
In Year 10 Science, the students have formed into two groups to formulate and conduct their Physics investigations into the interrelationships of force, mass, acceleration and energy transfer. One group group are utilising various toy cars of differing masses rolled down a set incline, whereas the other group is rolling one marble down a variety of inclines.
Last Thursday, one of the groups began conducting their investigation, which involved multiple repetitions of the same event to ascertain the most accurate time measurement possible. This averaged time will be inputted into various formulae to calculate average velocity, average acceleration, final velocity and peak kinetic energy. Year 10 students are creating individual reports for this Physics Investigation as part of their first Science Assessment Task of the year.
If you have a student in year 9 or 10 Science, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.
God bless you,
Mr Eric Hargrave
Year 7 Camp
Last week our Year 7s had the privilege to spend three days at Camp Barrabadeen. Mick Rae from Stand FIRM Adventures, Chappy Molly and Staff from Jubilee Christian College worked together to make this time a memorable one.
There were many opportunities for students to grow in body, mind and spirit. Orienteering, canoeing, abseiling, and games nights were some of the many activities our year seven students participated in. Working in a team required students to be placed on a roster and complete chores such as cooking and cleaning up duties. It was a great encouragement to observe the willingness and diligence many of our students displayed. Some of the meals our year seven students helped to prepare included chicken burrito bowls, sushi, and burgers. (Parents take note, no more excuses at home when it comes to helping with meal preparation!)
During our devotion time, we focused on the College core values which state that we value what God values, we value each other, we value our talents and we value our school and community.
Overall, we were blessed with fine weather and the odd shower here and there. Our time during camp has brought our Year 7 students closer together as a cohort. Friendships have been formed and strengthened. Staff and students have also had the opportunity to build rapport and get to know each other.

Senior Phase
Our Senior Adventure camp is fast approaching. Exciting activites, life long memories and valuable skills await! Please be sure that full payment for camp has been made by Monday 26 February.
Students from Year 10-12 are also are being offered the opportunity to complete their First Aid course on Wednesday 27 March, from 8-4pm. This is an excellent opportunity that could potentially contribute 2 points to their QLD Certificate of Education. The cost of the course has already been included in school on campus school fees. You can register for the course here.
Chappy Corner
Congratulations to Chappy Molly who was recently nominated for a Community Service Award in the TRC Australia Day Awards!!! We are so very thankful for everything Molly does to serve young people at Jubilee and in the wider community.
For those who are new to the College, Chappy Molly has been working as a school chaplain since 2016, and has worked in 5 schools across the Tablelands. She is passionate about seeing children and young people thrive.
This is what she has to say about working at Jubilee, "I love supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of students and staff at Jubilee! One of my favourite things about being a school chaplain is the variety in each day and that my role is completely centred around helping people. From spending time in classrooms, to one-on-one chats, running groups, or going on school camps I love building connections and getting to know our students. They know I’m always up for a chat, a laugh or a game of uno!"
